this track was written and performed by my best friend Su Morin, a few months before she died.
at the time of recording, Su already had over 50 tumours in her lungs.
we'd managed to get one take- not so much because she was in pain, but more because she was never very patient about these things to begin with!
all her life, SuZ had been too shy to sing in front of others (it was the only reason she even asked me to be in her band all those years ago!), but this fear fell away when the cancer returned.
even SuZ herself was surprised by how sweet and high her notes could climb.
it could be said that to discover and unleash this power in oneself at all is a gift, but SuZ, and all those who knew her, only wish she'd had more time to explore it.
backing tracks were added afterward,
Su never heard the final version, but she was happy with her bed track, and knew it was going on this album, which is dedicated to her.
lyrics
in my love,
my love
my love,
he left you
in my love,
my love
my love,
you left too
now all nature’s out of balance,
the coy wolf cries out —
(wolf howls)
we grew,
we grew,
we grew
great gardens
and milkweed
they grew,
they grew,
they grew
great gardens
and milkweed
now all nature’s out of balance,
the coy wolf cries out —
(wolf howls)
the trees, the trees
the tamarack
and spruce,
they miss you
the trees, the trees
the tamarack
and spruce,
they miss you
now all nature’s out of balance,
the coy wolf cries out —
(wolf howls)
goodbye my love
goodbye my love,
my Pooschka
goodbye my love
goodbye my love,
my Pooschka
all of nature’s out of balance,
the coy wolf cries out —
(wolf howls)
